What trips hosts in Chicago

  • In a building of 5+ units, only 25% of units (or 6, whichever is less) may be shared housing — your neighbor's registration can block yours.
  • Renters: Chicago registration does not override a lease, and many Chicago leases are enforced on exactly this point.

The private layer still applies

These are the city's rules. Your HOA, condo board, lease or mortgage can say no on top of them — that layer is printed as a warning in the checker, never merged into the city's verdict.
